This is Where EyeEm From: Tokyo

After the meetup we hosted in Tokyo a little over a month ago, there is a special place in our hearts for this city. It’s not only one of the most breathtaking metropolises in the world, but also home to a bunch of super-creative EyeEm people who show us their city through their eyes.

こんにちは!

After themeetupwe hosted in Tokyo a little over a month ago, there is a special place in our hearts for this city. It’s not only one of the most breathtaking metropolises in the world, but also home to a bunch of super-creative EyeEm people.

To get to know their city a little better, we asked 3 of our friends from Tokyo on their perspective:from the most beautiful place to shoot in Tokyo, to their secret spot, to just what they love about the vibrant city…

Where is the most beautiful place to shoot in Tokyo?

Cityscapes from skyscrapers such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government office building. Early evening is the perfect time to shoot. And spring (or more precisely: end of march until early April) is the best season for taking photos of cherry blossoms, an absolutely must-do in Japan.

What’s your secret spot in Tokyo?

Tokyo sounds like a trendy city but you’ll see funky old alleys if you step into the wonderland. Every back street has small bars, shops or old style shopping malls which look dirty, feel a bit abandoned and aren’t trendy at all. However, local people (especially boozers) love these hidden places. Wandering around these narrow alleys is the easiest way to time-travel to Tokyo as it was 50 years ago.

Where is the most beautiful place to shoot in Tokyo?

There are a beautiful futuristic buildings, various skyscrapers, nature, etc. in Tokyo. However, what I love most is Tokyo Tower. Seen at night, Tokyo Tower is a very romantic place.

What’s your secret spot in Tokyo?

It is the night view of the city. After the sun sets before it becomes dark, this is my favorite time in the city.

There are two places which I love:

-> The 1st is an observation room of Tokyo Metropolitan GovernmentOffice. You can go to the highest floor for free.

-> The 2nd is the World Trade Center Building near Hamamatsucho Station. You can also seeTokyo Tower in the night from there..

Other places I love: Harakuju, Asakusa, Shibuya and Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

The most beautiful place to shoot in Tokyo

Nezu-Sendagi-Yanaka is an area where you can enjoy both traditional and modern Tokyo. An excellent itinerary for photo-walking and eating.

My secret spot in Tokyo

Kagurazaka. This may not be a secret though. I love the mixture of tradition of a Japanese “play zone” and influence of French culture here.

Thank you guys! Can’t get enough? Head over to the albums Tokyoand Japan to get inspired.
