Canon x EyeEm 'Creator Meets' Event Heads to Vienna With a Shoot for Sennheiser

By Ana Nsue - 3 min read

For the second installment of EyeEm's 'Creator Meets' series with Canon, we headed to Vienna to shoot for Sennheiser. Storytelling, emotion and passion were the big themes of the day, and it shows in the images.

“What’s left for a photographer if a product is almost invisible?” The important question posed by Sennheiser‘s Global Brand Design Manager, Pascal Imhof, and challenging our Vienna creators to think beyond simple product photography.

“What’s left for a photographer if a product is almost invisible?”

With items like headphones getting smaller, Pascal predicts that within 10 years, products will become almost invisible. When this happens, photographers will be faced with the unique challenge of photographing emotions, stories, moods and important moments, rather than a product.

Pascal was joined by Cem Guenes, professional photographer who has shot for brands like Jeep, BMW, Bayer, Volkswagen, Turkish Airlines and more.

“People buy a lifestyle, not a product”

Pascal’s tips on shooting for the job:

  • Focus on experiences: “People buy a lifestyle, not a product.” Pascal says.
  • Focus on what’s happening around the product rather than the product itself.
  • Create identification: Avoid cliches and take a documentary approach.
  • Stay eye to eye level: Try to tell stories from the customer’s point of view.
  • Foster imagination: Leave enough space for the viewer to imagine.
  • Think in terms of stories, not single photos.
  • Cem’s tips on scoring the job:

  • Be different from the rest, but know how to match the brand style.
  • Provide a portfolio with variety: close-ups, details, white backgrounds, copy space, focus on every aspect and provide enough variety.
  • Have photos in your portfolio that match the brand you want to shoot for.
  • Pascal and Cem challenged our Vienna creators to go out and shoot Sennheiser product. Taking to the streets the team of photographers took to the streets to capture the stories and emotions that would make their product photography unique.

Following the shoot, Pascal and Cem ran feedback session. Sharing their professional insights and feedback from two different creative perspectives.
