It’s Sunday morning, 10:30 AM and the parking lot is full of cars. I gather the group of 30 something participants and discuss the plans for the day. We have an assembly from all walks of life. Everyone is eager, excited and positive!
After explaining where to tag our photos on EyeEm and going over some pointers on how to use different camera and editing apps, we are off to the old Gibraltar Mansion. Rain was in the forecast but we had nothing but sunshine. The gardens of the property were filled with great photographic opportunities. Old statues, a giant, elaborately designed, wrought iron gate and even a great reflecting pool full of life. Bright orange goldfish swam around through beautifully bloomed lily pads and gave a great opportunity for reflection shots, which many in the group took full advantage of.
Some of the group got a little more adventurous and found their way into the old mansion. Inside was a plethora of textures, mirrors and objects left behind. A true relic of the past.
We regrouped after an hour or so and I took a group photo around the reflecting pool. We talked about what we had found, shared some photos with one another and the majority of the group geared up for the second leg of the day.
Our next stop, the Wilmington Riverfront, running right along the Christina River. It was here we had a chance to experiment with symmetry and candid street photography. All along the river walk we passed by local folks out enjoying the day. The walk also has a variety of old cranes, sprawling foot bridges, a nature preserve, an old railcar, and a set of train tracks running right into a massive, old train bridge that crosses the historic Christina River.
We ended our day together on the deck of a local brewery. Overlooking the world we had just explored, sharing a beer and our photos. What more could you ask for?
Thanks for attending: Hairball McGee, kevin, Sheila, SofaKingManda, Shaena, Leila, Valerie Thiel, Steph Cowden, Eric Anderson, Sara Duncan, Andyhow, Leanne Pedante, CineMavericks Media, Alliance, Kathleen Magner-Rios.
