Taking to the skies in a hot air balloon in Cappadocia, Turkey
Turkey’s historical Cappadocia region, with its truly magical landscape, is one of the most popular hot air ballooning spots in the world. And many members of the EyeEm Community have been lucky enough to see it for themselves, snapping away on whatever camera they had to hand.
From smartphones to point-and-shoot cameras to pricier DSLRs, each of the 12 photographers captured Cappadocia from a unique angle. With 12 unique results.
Let’s see how Cappadocia looks through 12 different lenses:
By
THE GEAR: Canon EOS 600d with 55-250mm lens
A telephoto lens has allowed Claudio to really zoom in on the red balloon. The result is this abstract composition, with a burst of red contrasted against the patterns of the ground below.

THE GEAR: Samsung NX500
Ness has also used a telephoto lens – but the results couldn’t be more different. In her take on the scene, mountains fill the frame, dwarfing the balloons in front.
By
THE GEAR: Nikon D810 with lens at 14mm
Charlie’s wide angle perspective lifts us, the viewer, into the picture and up into the air. From lemon yellow to dark purple, his photo makes use of color grading in the sky at sunset.
By
THE GEAR: Sony RX100
Nikolay’s strong composition, complete with two friends and their long shadows, helps us really situate ourselves in the scene. And shot on a point-and-shoot camera too!
By
THE GEAR: Sony a7 with Zeiss FE 35 F2.8 lens
The Sony a7 is known to capture light beautifully. That is on full display here in Muxuan’s shot.
