Last week, EyeEm held a three day exhibition at OPENHOUSE Gallery in SoHo. It was at this very gallery – four years ago! – that EyeEm held their first New York mobile photography exhibition. It was a very special return to our roots.
From March 26th to March 28th, EyeEm took over OPENHOUSE Gallery with an installation of The EyeEm World Tour, an EyeEm Market launch party, and a community day that featured a Masterclass by New Yorker community member Jordan Cortese (@jordanmiles). Thanks to everyone who came out and our beer sponsor Peroni. We hope you had as an amazing time as we did!
DAY 1: MARKET LAUNCH & EXHIBITION:
PUTTING TOGETHER THE PIECES
Thursday was EyeEm’s first day at OPENHOUSE. When the Team arrived from Berlin and San Francisco, we hit the ground running. In just a few hours, your photos were up on the wall curated and hung by creative mastermind Gen and the team.
By 5 p.m., it was all systems go. Debut copies of the first edition of the EyeEm Magazine were laid out, Peroni lined up, and cameras ready to go. Now, just to await the arrival of New York City’s finest — the EyeEm community, partners, and press.
THE NIGHT BEGINS & MARKET LAUNCHES
The first attendees arrived at 5:30PM sharp. They came to see your photos! Hundreds of community shots were featured as prints on the wall, in projection and in our special edition EyeEm Magazine.
Soon, the house was packed (see photos below!), and Flo took to the mic to make a very special announcement: EyeEm Market had officially launched in the U.S. For the first time, the EyeEm Community will be able make their photos available for sale to publishers, brands, and media. Once the announcement was made, we celebrated into the evening, sharing photos, stories, and fun overall.
DAY 2: GALLERY DAY
Friday the 29th was a gallery day. The team hung out in the space while visitors stopped by via word of mouth or simply by seeing the exhibition from the sidewalk. We made new friends who viewed your photos from morning until early evening!
DAY 3: MASTERCLASS WITH JORDAN CORTESE
Our last day in New York City ended with a community day. The entire team spent the afternoon mingling with the EyeEm community, enjoying refreshments and taking lots of photos. At 3:30, EyeEm community photographer Jordan Cortese arrived to teach what was a fantastic masterclass.
Jordan shared his best tips for studio and natural light portrait photography, and the afternoon wrapped up with photographers experimenting with studio lights, reflectors, and the awesome natural lighting and white walls in the gallery space.
Thanks to everyone in New York City who helped us make this happen, but most of all to those who attended and celebrated. Thank you, EyeEm community!
A big round of applause to everyone near and far who wasn’t there in person, but there watching and participating via this magic thing we call the worldwide web and especially to the photographers whose photos appeared in the exhibition. This was an amazing experience for EyeEm, and we can’t wait to see you again in September at the EyeEm Festival.
