DAY 1: THE SUMMIT
The first part of the festival was the summit: a 1-day conference where an eclectic group of people discussed the future of photography, publishing, journalism, advertising & more. We gathered at Alte Teppichfabrik, a 19th century converted factory spanning over 4 floors, and jumped straight into the conversation.
At 6pm, the doors to the exhibition opened. Featuring thousands of images from The 2014 EyeEm Awards, as well as the top 100 shortlist curated by our 21 judges, the exhibition took over the 3rd and 4th floor.
10 LCD screens presented the shortlists of each of the 10 categories on the 3rd floor while the 4th floor invited you to explore the top 100 shortlist, printed on a variety of media from paper to glass and aluminium.
THE AWARD CELEBRATION & PARTY
By 9pm, the 4 floor building was completely filled. Community members from all over the world mingled with Berlin locals and the art scene and gathered at the 1st floor for The 2014 EyeEm Award Celebration. On the program: announcing the 10 category winners and The EyeEm Photographer of the Year.
The room was packed. Cat and Severin dressed up in style and the category winners were announced (check them out here). Then, the big moment came: 15-year old David Uzochukwu just arrived from the airport, entered the stage and was announced EyeEm Photographer of the Year. Congratulations!
Then, EyeEm DJs Giulio, Lorenz, Paul and Adam entered the stage and turned up the volume. We celebrated, danced, drowned in a sea of confetti… the rest is history.
Thank you to ALL OF YOU who came along! More than 1000 people attended the first day of the festival, making this an incredible experience for all of us.
And thank you to ALL OF YOU ALL OVER THE WORLD who took part in The 2014 EyeEm Awards and contributed their photos. You are the reason why we’re celebrating a new generation of photographers. There will be many more celebrations in the future.
