The Foodie

The Foodie

The table - a place for community, conversation and creativity. A platform for discussion and direction. Food-focused experiences are breaking the mold of the traditional dinner plate and food has evolved into a tool for expression, inspiration and new connections. The Foodie is about capturing the new colors, textures, compositions and contexts waiting to be explored.

My lovely husband has troubles with recognition of colors. That's why colors have significant place in my photography. Yellow is the brightest from all colors even in black and white spectrum, so it is the "A" letter in my alphabet of colors.

It is a personal reminder of moving every year from one place to another and starting again. I see what is left over in this image.

My image came about whilst exploring a new part of my city. As a photographer, absorbing something new and novel is as exciting as it gets. I find you become very aware of the little details. This was my favourite shot of the day as I felt it captured the laid back and slightly retro vibe I was getting from my explorations.

With model Olga Lukina, I had a fashion photoshoot in the retro cafe called American 50's Diner. It had just opened, so we wanted to be the first to shoot here. That was our idea: to make an authentic photoshoot with no ages, just a story. After we finished, we just wanted to have some food so we ordered the famous burgers, when I saw the whole picture with how Olga was eating her food, I couldn't resist taking a photo.

The idea came from thinking of different textures of food from the outside combined with a person, and no longer hidden inside the warmth of the stomach. The idea appeared when a little piece of my food jumped away from the fork and fall on my arm making a strange contact through my body from a different perspective. Capturing warm pasta wrapped around someone like dozen tiny snakes and the coldness of an ice cream bringing out emotions of a subject was the next step. The subject end up being my boyfriend enjoying the fun part of the photoshoot and the messy bathtub clean up after the photoshoot.

I often observe everything around me and pay attention to the small things. Finding beauty in subtlety always inspires me. A piece of peeled pink grapefruit with the fine textured flesh, gives me a visual shock. This photo displays a vigorous and energetic fascination with nature.

I have loved fashion, elegance, beauty, jewelry, and fashion magazines since my childhood when I dreamt of being a fashion model. This shot has been taken in the kitchen with one special light. I wanted to show the vanity, beauty, fashion and elegance, something simple in one photo.

I did this shoot for Spice. Spice is a vibrant and hip restaurant, inspired by an Asian street market. The lively, steaming and ever-changing Asian dining cuisine dates back to the XIXth century in New York, when the first visitors from the distant corners created and changed recipes for the western life. The cuisine had its own metamorphosis while having an impact on London, Berlin and other European cities. In the western world, a new trend of colours and flavours has been born, where the classics of the old-fashioned elderly meet the metropolitan street rhythm.
