Aqüeducte de les Ferreres, Ponte del Diable or Devil's Bridge. After the Romans had defeated the Carthaginians, the mighty Republic started to incorporate Carthaginian lands. Amongst these, we get the province Hispania, and "España" (Castilian for 'Spain') is derived from the word 'Hispania'. Tarragona is a city in the now Autonomous Region Catalonia (Catalunya/Cataluña), but Tarragona has a long history. It used to be the capital of the Roman province Hispania, and was then known as Tarraco. Now, let us talk of the bridge. Here is the story I was told by my good friends, whom are natives from Tarragona. In the old day, outside Tarraco, there were villagers who needed to cross the mountains to get to the city. Yet, one day, the bridge was destroyed. Out of nowhere, a man appears, The Devil. He says: "Overnight, I will completely rebuild this bridge, but only if I get the soul of the first who crosses the bridge." The villagers, somewhat reluctantly agreed. The following morning, as the villagers came to the exact spot, and saw the bridge in all its awe. Yet, having no sympathy for The Devil, they did not want to be responsible for someone's death, so they let a horse cross it. The Devil did not accept this, so the villagers removed one stone. Why you may ask? Well, now The Devil had not fulfilled his promise to 'completely rebuild the bridge', and no soul had to be given.
