Cape Bitou

The effects of erosion can be seen on the rocks of 'Dragon's Cave Bay' (Longdongwan), north-east Taiwan. Cape Bitou, to the north-west, can be seen in the left of the picture. "See that?" A sudden explosion of surf perhaps 8 metres high, at Cape Bitou on Taiwan's north-eastern coast. The subject matter of this shot, and about a dozen others like it from the north-east coast of Taiwan was not 'nice' enough to be put on the market. Although all my other EyeEm photos are on the market, I left these few in for the sake of fellow photographers (or anyone) who may visit this area. Very much under-reported, especially in English, is that there are regular fatalities - sometimes entire groups - from 'mad dog waves' at a number of locations between Jilong and Beiguan. I myself was knocked to the ground at a location near here by a 'mad dog' wave, and could easily have been swept away. A good rule of thumb in this region is not to linger too close to the water's edge anywhere where the land does not evidently slope gradually into the sea. Formidable kinetic energy spent on the coast at Cape Bitou, Taiwan,. The coast here is infamous for 'mad-dog waves' that kill dozens of anglers every year.
