North Kaibab Trail

Wished that water were flowing calmer | I had been to the Colorado River a few times before. Several years ago when I backpacked Boucher Trail via Hermits Rest, I hiked down to it twice Last year when I backpacked Havasupai, I day hiked to it. The Kaibab Suspension Bridge connecting North and South Kaibab Trails came into view while taking a break at Boat Beach. I just wished that the water were flowing calmer. Beautiful glow on North Rim | North Kaibab Trail more than often offered a spectacular view of the canyon walls. After Supai Tunnel, we reached a point where we could see the bridge farther down the canyon to jump over to the other side of the crevice. The sun was rising high, casting beautiful glow on the North Rim. Soon we would be hiking in the sun. Canyon walls rose higher and higher | While going down North Kaibab Trail to the Colorado River, the thing that I was constantly drawn to was Bright Angel Creek, which ran along the trail till it reached the almighty river. As we were getting close to the bottom of the canyon, the canyon walls rose higher and higher, and what I saw was the gradual change of the hues in the water reflected by the combination of colors of the canyon walls and the sky. I can’t wait to go back and do this trail again as backpacking. Days were shorter in October | One of the cool rock formations standing right by North Kaibab Trail stopped me. Looked like a massive castle towering over a section of the trail running below. The way that light came down and the bouncing light from the canyon walls illuminated the rock fortress. Wished I had had more time to explore it but I knew I had to keep moving. Sun was already sinking behind us | The hike back up to the North Rim was quite tiring. 15 miles and 5,660’ elevation gain. Of course, many hikers and trail runners often do the ‘Rim to Rim’ or ‘Rim to Rim to Rim’ hikes or runs. I was definitely not prepared. When we trudged past Cottonwood Campground, the sun was already sinking behind us. And this gorgeous orange sunset glow cast at the top of the canyon walls was a clear indication that it was going to be really late by the time when I reached the North Kaibab Trailhead.
