Natures sponge

Where there is water, there is life. The high amount of rainfall in New Zealand, means mosses like this Sphagnum Moss, has many, many days where it will soak up the filtering rain droplets from the tree canopy above. Some mosses can soak up to three times their own weight in structure, from which other plants use this natural water storage for when there is periods of no rain. Mosses also use the collected water to assist there own reproductive life cycle.
