Let's say that 99% of the times you see a indigenous woman shepherding at the Peruvian highlands, chances are she will be by herself. "I am used to the solitude" - says Ernestina. "But I know that God is with me" Sometimes Ernestina takes Gabriela; a 9 years old orphan that lives in the same mountain; to shepherd with her. The girl doesn't go to school - as there are no schools nearby. "I love Ernestina. She is like a mother to me. I want to grow up and be as beautiful as she is". Ernestina can't hide the happiness while listening to Gabriela's words. The girl expresses her admiration to Ernestina and says she doesn't know what she wants to be when she grows up, except for being like Ernestina. Most of the kids from the highlands don't have professional expectations as they are ‘supposed’ to be shepherds for life.
