Nuclear testing

"What? Me worry?" Nevada was ground zero fit above ground testing of nuclear weapons in the 1950's. Area 51 and other semisecret military installations just north of Las Vegas were responsible for weapons research and development. Tourists would come to Las Vegas in the hopes that a test would be conducted. And indeed were close enough to shake the ground and provide a nice mushroom cloud fur tourists to photograph. Prevailing winds carried the fallout away into Utah, mostly. Cancer clusters in Nevada and Utah traceable to these tests continue to crop up to this very day.
