Mr Lee Kuan Yew

176th in size (278 sq miles) and with no natural resources, nearly 10% of our land has been set aside for parks and nature reserves. To soften the harshness of urbanisation and improve the quality of life, our first Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew started tree-planting campaigns from 1963. We may have no water, mountains, waterfalls, lakes or rivers unlike the rest of South East Asia - at the very least, we have good, tree-lined roads .
