Originally, the Headquarters of the Imperial Guards , the building designed by Military Engineer Tamura Yasushi was left to fall into Disrepair after WWII and destined for demolition. However, the authorities received feedback that the building was of great Architectural Value being a good example of a Western Style Brick Building built during the Meiji Period and also an important Legacy of Government Architecture.It was decided in 1972 that it would be modified as a gallery.
