All-Hallows-by-the-Tower ia an ancient Anglican Church founded in 675, oveelooking the Tower of London. It is one of the oldest churches in London and contains a 7th century Saxon arch with recycled Roman tiles (the oldest surviving piece of church fabric in London). It was badly damaged by an explosion in 1650, the tower was rebuilt in 1658. It narrowly escaped the Great Fire Of London in 1666. Samuel Pepys had climbed the church's spire during the great fire of london to watch the process of the blaze. It was restored in the late 19th century and after it was gutted by german bombers in WWII, it was extensively reconstructed (although many parts of the old church survived the war and have been sympathetically restored). The 6th president of the united states ( John Quincy Adams ) married here in 1797 and the founder of Pennsylvania ( William Penn ) was baptised here in 1644 London England Architecture
