Or That Way 2 We traveled around lake Kariba for 10 days with a houseboat. I saw at a far distance a herd of elephants, at least 50. They were coming from the bush and headed to the water. I asked the guide to take the small boat and navigate towards them. He even didn’t notice the herd at that moment. We immediately jumped into the boat and went straight to the herd. It took around 20 minutes till we arrived close to the herd. During that trip, I took several shots. It was a wonderful moment looking at the herd. Sometimes we could get closer, other moments we had to go a little further. Suddenly, they disappeared into the thick dry bush again. What a moment, so intense, and so happy to see this. Creepy Kariba 7 These pictures were shot during my travel on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe. We travelled around the lake with a houseboat for 8 days. The lake is an artificial lake created in the 60s, for electricity production. We can find those dead and mineralized trees all around the lake, which are the leftovers of the flora before this bassin was flooded. In the evening, those trees, combined with all kinds of wildlife sounds, can give a creepy impression. Those trees are hollow, and are the perfect habitat for small bats. When we passed along the trees, and were very quiet, we could hear them squeak. Our guides also recommended us to smell just above a hole, never again. Fleeing Flock - I wanted to get closer to the birds, but apparently they didn't. At the moment I was disappointed. When I saw this shot on my laptop, I was so happy. Houseboat KF 790. I know, it's not the best shot, I just wanted to post 1 picture about the houseboat. Lower deck are the 3 sleeping rooms, kitchen and bathroom. Upper deck is the living room and the captain's control room. We had a captain, a cook and a helper. They were also our wildlife guides when we went out for wildlife spotting. Coffee, thee and biscuits at 7h, large english breakfast at 10h. Those who wanted could have a lunch. And a large dinner at 18h. Let's not forget my rum-coke in the afternoon. This Is Close Enough. Lake Kariba Is infested with crocs, and they get huge and fat. Apparently there is enough food for them. While I was there a guide told me how it comes there are so many crocs. Around Lake Kariba are several crocodile farms, they are used for their skins. But there is a quota, every farm is limited to a x number of crocs by year. If they have to much, they dump them in the lake. So, there is a natural growth in numbers plus a added growth of cultivated crocs. Crocs have natural enemies when they are very young. But once they get bigger then a meter, which isn't that much, they become the only predators in the lake. This will soon become a huge problem, as they easely thrive. This croc is about 6m, not many places left in Africa where we find crocs that big. #kariba #zimbabwe #animal #croc #crocodile #crocs #lake #lakekariba #predator #reptile #water #wildlife #wildlifephotography Animal Animal Wildlife Animals In The Wild Crocodile Crocs Crocus Kariba Lake Lake Kariba LakeKariba No People One Animal Outdoors Predator Reptile Water Wildlife Wildlifephotography Zimbabwe
