SriMahaGanapatiDev

Radiant with religious symbolism and imbued with restorative powers, the Tulsi or HolyBasil plant (Ocimum sanctum) is widely worshipped in Hindu households and temples. I have never seen a more flagrant or flamboyant display of this phenomenon than in the charming costal village of Gokarna in Uttara Karnataka (UK), where this aromatic herb is subject to daily ritual in front yards, backyards and courtyards. This one is my favourite, out in the street by the SriMahaGanapatiDev Temple. As I stood there in admiration, the Brahmin priest, whose front door looks upon this view, pointed out that the window frieze (top right) depicts Shiva and Parvati.
