There are many street performers in Santa Monica, but this guy is doing something unique. So unique, in fact, that I'm not precisely sure what it is. I left a buck in his tip jar and spoke with him for a couple of minutes. He told me the story behind the two plastic snakes, but he never got around to explaining how the stick on his head, the loin cloth, or the posing atop a ladder fit into the equation. It could be a meditative thing--though the fact that it was being done in a public park and was punctuated by entreaties for money would seem to argue against that. It could just be an intriguing way to get some sun, make a few bucks, meet some folks and stare at the Pacific Ocean for a while. In any event, our conversation seemed to be throwing off his balance, so I elected to depart with only a portion of the story told.
