Photography Zine: World Cup Moments 2018

By Fabiana Sala, and Marili Persson - 4 min read

We've compiled some of our community's most outstanding work that tell stories about the beautiful game in all its glorious colors – the photos that best captured strong emotions, specific moments and great atmospheres. These images were captured during the highs and lows of what turned out to be one of the most unpredictable World Cups ever.

The 2018 World Cup has now concluded and France is the champion for a second time. Though fans follow their favorite teams year-round, for one month every four years the world comes together to watch an international tournament of this globally revered game. The World Cup matches have taken place in far-flung stadiums in Sochi, St. Petersburg, and Ekaterinburg among others.

We followed the World Cup and asked photographers in our community from all over the world to capture great moments from the 32 footballing nations. Fans from across the globe have been cheering, following the drama, and sending their support, either in Russia or watching from home, riding emotional rollercoasters as their teams leave everything on the field.

We decided to feature the best 9 stories in our zine, creating a visual collection inspired by this unique event. The zine includes stories from France, Bangladesh, Mexico, Palestine, Kenya and Russia. We looked for strong emotions, specific moments and unique stories to show something beyond the flags, and to find that unique point of view from footballing nations around the world. The photos show the world’s true love of soccer, placing the sport into a wider context through photography. Explore the full zine and the stories behind the photos here!
